The Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

What is the PTA?

The mission of Austin Elementary School in partnership with staff, parents, and community is to
provide a safe, nurturing environment where challenging and creative teaching occurs utilizing
state of the art resources. Individual learning needs will be met and students will develop into
confident, productive members of society. Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is dedicated to adding value to our children’s education, supporting the Austin faculty and staff, and creating a sense of community among the Austin Elementary families. The PTA works to provide the means-both monetarily and with our time and energy-to help our children and dedicated teachers and staff experience excellence on a daily basis.

Our PTA funds make many things possible at Austin, such as providing cultural arts programs,
providing books for the Literacy Collaborative Program, helping our teachers to attend staff
development workshops, and supplying computer equipment, interactive boards and classroom
supplies. Our dedicated PTA parents also give their time and attention to our students as tutors, media center workers, lunch bunch helpers, room parents, classroom readers, Dunwoody Dash volunteers, and various other PTA committees.

The Austin PTA offers a flexible means to develop strong family-school-community partnerships. There are many different opportunities to get involved with our school. There is something for everyone - no matter what your availability or commitment level is. Not all of our volunteer opportunities require you to be at Austin during school or business hours. Some committeees are just one-time events. Getting involved will offer you the chance to be an active partner in your child's education.

There are so many ways for all of our parents to be a part of all the wonderful things going on at
Austin. You can find out more about these opportunities by reading the Austin newsletters,
checking your child's TIP (Thursday Important Papers) each week for important PTA
announcements and by attending PTA meetings. PTA meeting dates and times are published in
the newsletter and advertised on marquee boards at the school. Our principal speaks at every
meeting and occasionally we have guest speakers. Again, these meetings are an excellent way to stay informed.

How and When Can You Join the PTA?

By joining the PTA you become an active participant in your child’s school. You can join the
PTA on Registration Day, Curriculum Night and at any time throughout the school year. The cost is $4. Contact one of the PTA Membership Committee Chairs listed under the Austin Committees for more information regarding PTA membership.
